Rickenbacker 4001 bass guitar overhaul

This 1974 Rickenbacker 4001 bass was brought for an overhaul. It had a badass bridge recessed into an enlarged routing and the front pickup cavity had been enlarged. The body cavites were filled with wood to the original dimensions and the front refinished in jet black nitro cellulose. We have also carried out the truss rod anchor modification so the truss rod now operates properly. The paint is hardening off ready for buffing before the bass is reassembled and set up. The new bridge assembly is on the way...

Double bass ready to go home!

The bridge has now been shaped and fitted and we have inserted side dot markers as requested by the customer, as he also plays electric bass. The bass is now strung up and a Schatten pickup has been attached to the bridge. It sounds and plays great now and is awaiting collection...

Something different!

This early 1900's German double bass was brought in with an unplayable high action.

Before work commenced clamps were applied to keep the soundpost in place. The fingerboard had an excessive concave bow so we carried out corrective work to restore it to level and profile. The nut grooves were lowered correspondingly.

New restoration project: 1946/7 Gibson L48

One of our regular customers recently purchased this 1946/7 Gibson L48. It is in pretty good condition for its age with just a few non original screws, a missing pickguard and tuner ferrule. There are a couple of loose braces which need securing, a hole on the heel to be filled where a strap button had been fitted and the bridge needs attention. The whole guitar will need a thorough clean inside and out. The fingerboard will benefit from oiling as it has become very dry. It will be set up, missing and odd parts will be sourced and fitted and the tuners will be overhauled.
